GLOBAL E-BUSINESS AND COLLABORATION

2.1     BUSINESS PROCESSES INFORMATION SYSTEMS

          Business processes are the collection of activities required to produce a product or services. Simple activity turns to be a complicated series of business processes and it needs a great deal of information to make it become more efficient. So, computer-based information systems make this possible to connect rapidly both within the firm and with the customer.
           Information technology changes the way a business works and supports entirely new business models  because we can achieve a very clear understanding of how business actually works and to understand how to change business by improving its processes to make it more efficient and effective.



2.2     TYPES OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS            

           There are many different kinds of  systems because the different interests, needs, specialties, and levels in an organization. No single system that can provide it all. So, we need to
take a look at these systems and the types of decision they support.

a.          Systems for Different Management Group
-   Transaction processing systems (TPS), provide information such as cash receipts, payroll.

b.          Systems for Business Intellegence
        -   Management Information Systems (MIS), provides middle managers with reports            to predict future.
-     Decision-support Systems (DSS), support more non-routine decision making.
-    Executive Support Systems (ESS), provide data in graph, chart, and dashboard for senior management,

c.     Systems for Linking the Enterprise
Enterprise application consist of four major enterprise applications: enterprise systems, supply chain management systems, customer relationship management systems, and knowledge management systems.
       Intranet is simply the internal company website that are accessible only by employees. Likewise, extranets are the company websites that are accessible  to authorized vendors and suppliers, and are often used to coordinate the movement supplies to the firm production apparatus.

d.    E-business, E-commerce, and E-government
         E-business, refers to the use of digital technology and Internet to execute the major business processes in the enterprise. E-commerce is part of the e-business that deals with buying and selling goods and services over the internet and also encompasses activities supporting market transactions. E-government refers to the application of the Internet and networking technologies to digitally enable government and public sector agencies’ relationships with citizens, businesses, and other arms of government.

2.3     SYSTEMS FOR COLLABORATION AND SOCIAL BUSINESS

           Collaboration is working with others to achieve shared and explicit goals. Collaboration focus on task or mission accomplishment and usually takes place in a business, or other organization, and between businesses. Many firms today enhance collaboration by embracing social business. Social business is to deepen interactions with group outside and inside the firm to expedite and enhance information sharing, innovation, and decision making.
           Here also some benefits  of collaboration and social business, such as the increasing the level of productivity, quality, innovation, customer service, and financial performance (profitability, sales, and sales growth). Successful collaboration requires an appropriate organizational structure and culture, along with appropriate collaboration technology.
        Some tools and technologies for collaboration and social business: Email and Instant Messaging (IM), Wikis, Virtual Worlds, Collaboration and Social Business Platforms.

2.4     THE INFORMATION SYSTEMS FUNCTION IN BUSINESS
           The information systems department is the formal organization unit responsible for information technology services. It is responsible to maintain hardware, software, etc. This department consist of specialists and headed by a CIO.
