Last Monday, on December 8th 2014, we had a chance to have a Management Information Systems class in Tsunami Museum where Mr. Iskandarsyah was judging the finalists of Aceh Tourism E-Guide Competition. That was such an honour to be there to see the judgement of this competition. But unluckily, we only had time to see the presentation from 2nd team which called GGSH (Geunyoe-geunyoe Software House) Team. Geunyoe-genyoe comes from the Aceh traditional language which means “like this”. Basically, this team is from Diponegoro University, Semarang, but all of this team members are Acehnesse.

GGSH Team created an Aceh Tourism Event (ATE) application. They made two kind of applications, ATE-G for users and ATE-GA for admins. The reasons why they created this software actually because they want to join Aceh Tourism E-Guide Competition and also because they thought that the previous Aceh Tourism E-Guide which developed by DISBUDPAR was not completely functional and the display is not attractive.

They created Aceh Tourism Guide with Location Based Service, here they process the program with Google Maps as well. Some of its application functional needs are user’s position feature, list of tours and events feature, Indonesia-Aceh Dictionary, weather feature, etc. Application non-functional needs are run in android froyo version and above, application size is under 10 Mb, ATE-GA can be accessed only by administrator.

The advantages of this software such as it is developed under Android technology and Google Maps API, the database is dynamic, the display is catchy and interesting, and this is a small size application. They hope if they have a change to be the winner they will develop some other features in this software because they believe that there are still many weakness in this software and I also think the same.

So, this is my review about GGSH Team in Aceh Tourism E-Guide Competition. Since we didn't have a chance to see another presentation, we hope that the best team will become the winner and create such a cool and useful e-guide to help the tourist have a nice time in Aceh.

December 10th, 2014

Few days ago,  we had a guest named Luis Morta in Management Information System (MIS) class. He came to our class with Mr. Iskandarsyah Madjid, my MIS’ lecturer. Luis Morta is an Expert4Asia Post-Doctoral Program Exchange Student from Erasmus. He comes originally from Portugal. Since Luis was born and raised in Portugal, of course Portuguese is his native language. In addition, Louis is able to speak fluently in English, Germany, Italia, France, and now he is studying Bahasa Indonesia as well. Luis received his bachelor degree in University of Aveiro, Portugal majoring in Environmental Engineering.  During his life, he has got so many awards and scholarship, one of them was a chance to study in Italy. It's very cool, isn't it?

Here in Aceh, Louis is doing a research about environmental tourism. This is because he has a really strong interest in environment and also tourism. He would like to manage and develop the tourism sites without harming the environment. This kind of issues are being forgotten these days. During his research in Aceh, Louis assisted by some of my friends who are willing to be a volunteer to help him collect data that he needs.

In question and answer session. I asked him, do he has any tips in applying such a scholarships from Erasmus because I have applied for Expert4Asia program this year and I failed, so I need some tips from Louis. Then Louis answered, the most important thing in applying scholarships is we have to see the benefit of the program for us. We also have to see whether the host university’s curriculum and the subjects equal or not compare to our home university. But, apart from all the reason, he encouraged us to go abroad to study because we will get so many benefits for our career path later on.

So, that’s all about Louis Morta, hopefully we could get some inspirations from his amazing experiences.

2.1     BUSINESS PROCESSES INFORMATION SYSTEMS

Business processes are the collection of activities required to produce a product or services. Simple activity turns to be a complicated series of business processes and it needs a great deal of information to make it become more efficient. So, computer-based information systems make this possible to connect rapidly both within the firm and with the customer.
Information technology changes the way a business works and supports entirely new business models  because we can achieve a very clear understanding of how business actually works and to understand how to change business by improving its processes to make it more efficient and effective.
